Writing Superpowers for Geeks
From better, more concise code and more persuasive emails to clients and colleagues, to documentation that other developers will want to read and better blog posts that will truly show our expertise - writing is an essential skill that every developer can use to succeed in their career.
Although they taught us nice handwriting and made us write essays about how we spent our last summer in school, it’s fascinating that they forgot to teach us how to really - write well! Although most of us might not want to become journalists or authors, we write - A LOT.
As Dustin J. Mitchell wrote: “Good writing skills are an indicator of an organized mind which is capable of arranging information and argument in a systematic fashion and also helping (not making) other people understand things. It spills over into code, personal communications, instant messaging (for those long-distance collaborations), and even such esoteric concepts as professionalism and reliability.”
In this workshop, Netokracija’s editor and chief Ivan Brezak Brkan will show you how to write better based on more than 13 years of writing experience, as well as 8 years editing articles written by other geeks.
The skills you learn in this workshop will help you:
- Use writing techniques to improve your code writing processes;
- Understand how editing is more important than writing;
- Write better call to actions for your projects than most marketeers.
- Write blog posts that will blow up on social media;
- Write emails that will persuade the recipient to understand why the deadline can’t be that short, while showing you’re not just lazy;
- Create improved troll comments on your friend’s social media updates.
Let’s be honest: As geeks, we prefer to communicate by writing - so improving it - should be one of our top priorities to improve our professional lives.
